DLP-1300DD Medical: Tyvek header bags for high-temperature sterilisation

The DLP-1300DD Medical produces 3-side-seal pouches with a top header for high-temperature sterilisation. It processes Tyvek, PE and co-extruded multilayer films using pulse sealing. All process parameters are stored as recipes, the basis for reproducible sterile barrier systems.

What defines this machine

Tyvek as sterilisation barrier

Tyvek is an HDPE spunbonded material: gas-permeable, microbe-tight, fibre-free on opening and far more tear-resistant than sterilisation paper. For demanding sterile barrier systems it is the reference material.

Header bag construction

The Tyvek header forms the gas-permeable top while the film body stays transparent, combining sterilisability with visual inspection.

Pulse sealing for Tyvek

Tyvek is sensitive to excess temperature and then melts instead of sealing. Pulse sealing with a 150 °C heating phase and active cooling to 60 °C keeps the process window precisely.

Recipe-based process control

Temperature, time, pressure and positions are stored per format as a recipe. For validated processes in medical device manufacturing this reproducibility is the core requirement.

Designed for high-temperature sterilisation

Material selection targets processes with high thermal load. Which method is admissible in a given case follows from the material specification and the manufacturer’s validation.

Frequently asked questions

What is Tyvek?

Tyvek is a nonwoven made of fine HDPE fibres. It is gas-permeable and therefore sterilisable, while remaining microbe-tight, tear-resistant and fibre-free on opening. In medical packaging it is the reference material for demanding sterile barrier systems.

What is a header bag?

A header bag has a separate top section, the header, made from gas-permeable material, here Tyvek. The bag body is film and stays transparent. The combination allows sterilisation and visual inspection in one pouch.

Why is pulse sealing necessary for Tyvek?

Tyvek consists of HDPE fibres that melt rather than seal when overheated, destroying gas permeability. Pulse sealing holds the narrow temperature window precisely and actively cools afterwards.

Is the machine suitable for validated processes?

It provides the technical prerequisite: reproducible, recipe-based process parameters. Validation to ISO 11607 is carried out by the medical device manufacturer for its specific combination of product, material and sterilisation method.
